Johnny Depp wins: Jury rules against Amber Heard in the defamation lawsuit

The jury reached a verdict in the highly publicized libel trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. The former couple met on The Rum Diary in 2011 and married in 2015. After one year of marriage, Heard filed for divorce and accused Depp of domestic violence. Since then, the two have been embroiled in a contentious legal battle. Depp previously lost a defamation case in the UK he brought against British tabloid The Sun over an article he referred to as a "wife-beater".

In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed piece for The Washington Post with assistance from the ALCU, detailing her experience with domestic and sexual violence, although she never mentioned Depp by name. Depp claims that the accusations severely damaged his career and reputation despite this. In response, he filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Heard, which was the scope of the last trial in Fairfax, Virginia. Since it began last month on April 11, the defamation trial has revealed several bombshells about the former couple's turbulent relationship and their involvement in the Pirates of the Caribbean and Aquaman franchises. After a few weeks of testimony and days of deliberation, the jury has reached a verdict.

Now, according to the Associated Press, the jury's verdict has been announced. Depp won a defamation lawsuit against Heard. Heard won one defamation case but got nothing.
