Anakin Skywalker's turn to the dark side seems to prove that he wasn't the Chosen One, but Star Wars has revealed that the real Chosen One is Darth Vader.
As fans learn from watching the third installment of the previous Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Anakin Skywalker was believed to be the Chosen One - someone who would eliminate the Sith from the galaxy and balance the force - but instead became the Sith Lord. Darth Vader. Skywalker failed to live up to the prophecy and proved that he wasn't the chosen one of the Jedi after all. However, in a completely different story, Star Wars seems to confirm that Darth Vader is a chosen one in a completely unexpected way.
In the original Star Wars trilogy, it is revealed that Anakin Skywalker's son, Luke Skywalker, is the true chosen one of the galaxy. He is the only person strong enough in strength to defeat the Empire and, in combination, the Sith, as well as being the only person who can restore the Jedi to its former glory. Luke was able to succeed where Anakin failed miserably, thus taking his place in history as the savior of the galaxy. However, in the Star Wars Legends story, it is revealed that Darth Vader's true fate was not for the benefit of the Jedi or the Sith, but a more chaotic cosmic purpose.
In the Dark Horse Comics miniseries Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ninth Assassin by Tim Seidel, Stephen Thompson and Evan Fernandez, an evil cult known as the Heinsnake Cult attempts to assassinate the Emperor. In response, Darth Vader traces them back to their homeworld to eliminate the threat in the name of the Empire. However, this is exactly what the sect wants him to do when he arrives, they are showing Vader how important they believe they are to their cause. The Heinsnake sect believes in order in chaos, and their religion has its own chosen one who prophesied to bring about that glorious chaos to the galaxy by eliminating both the Jedi and the Sith. They believe that this person is none other than Darth Vader, as his likeness appears in their ancient hieroglyphs and they foretell his chaotic rule.
Intriguingly, Vader finds himself at the center of two separate prophecies in the Star Wars universe, both of which speak of his incredible power with the Force. However, it turns out that the Jedi were wrong about Anakin being the chosen one because he helped destroy the Jedi while strengthening the Sith's galactic power. On the other hand, the Snake Cult almost fulfilled its prophecy before Darth Vader finally failed. By the end of the original trilogy, Darth Vader had moved away from the Sith and became responsible for the Emperor's demise. Essentially, Darth Vader nearly completes the serpent-worship prophecy by ending the rule of both Jedi and Sith. However, due to Luke's role in balancing the Force, Darth Vader doesn't throw the galaxy into chaos. So, while the sect is right to call Vader their chosen one, he ultimately fails in his mission.
This story marks the second time Darth Vader has turned his back on his supposed fate, although the second case stands apart from the first. Darth Vader was never the cosmic savior of the Jedi, but he was the source of chaos for the Heinsnake cult. This is proven to be true after inadvertently completing two-thirds of a prophecy before ultimately choosing to help his son complete his destiny rather than completing his own by throwing the galaxy into chaos, proving that Darth Vader was a chosen person in the Star Wars universe, only Not something anyone expected.
