Ahead of filming for the second season of Loki, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed that the show is the most-watched MCU series on Disney+.

Loki beats MCU Record As The Most-Watched Marvel Series On Disney+

Loki is officially the most-watched Marvel Studios series on Disney+. Following the events spinning off the events of Avengers: Endgame, Loki follows a variant of the titular character (Tom Hiddleston) in the MCU captured by the Time Variation Authority (TVA), responsible for maintaining the sacred timeline. Throughout the MCU series, Loki uncovers a vast plot about the origins of TVA and the state of the multiverse. It undergoes a heroic journey of self-discovery as he meets a variety of different incarnations of himself.

Disney's decision to release Loki on Wednesday instead of the Friday night slot (WandaVision and The Falcon in the Winter Soldier aired) corresponds to the biggest Loki show in any Disney+ series. Subsequently, Disney+ moved the release date of many of its shows to Wednesday. While many publications have reported that Loki is the most-watched MCU on Disney+, Disney has never released any official numbers to confirm this.

According to Deadline, during Disney pre-shows, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed, along with the premiere of the first trailer for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, that Loki was the biggest MCU Disney+ series. The Marvel boss attributed Loki's success to a "daring swing" and "a road trip that paid off". Feige didn't mention any official viewing numbers or the margin by which the series outperformed the rest. However, Feige confirmed that filming for Loki Season 2 will begin in the next few weeks.

Unlike the two MCU series it follows, Loki was not a mini-series but a regular series, with a post-credits scene letting audiences know that Loki will return in season two. With Loki now slated to begin filming in June 2022, it's likely to be released in 2023, but that hasn't been confirmed by Marvel. Michael Waldron, who wrote Loki Season 1 and drafted the script for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, recently revealed that Eric Martin will take over as lead writer for Season 2, which will also be directed by Moon Knight directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead.

Loki's success stems from several factors. Regarded as a fan-favorite character since his introduction in Thor in 2011 and further cemented in 2012's The Avengers, the character has been a mainstay in the MCU for years, and audiences have been excited to see a full story centered on God of Mischief. With Loki introducing Jonathan Majors as He Who Remains, a replacement for Kang the Conqueror, it's possible Marvel Studios will be hoping that the massive audience tuned for Loki will turn into Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that will feature a proper introduction of Kang the Conqueror. With the success of Loki, Hiddleston's character will almost certainly be in the MCU for much longer.
