The Last Kingdom after Season 5. With three novels still being adapted, that's how they will see the screen.
Season 5 of The Last Kingdom has finished showing the series on Netflix - however, the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) has at least one act. Based on Bernard Cornwell's historical fantasy book series, The Saxon Stories, The Last Kingdom has typically adapted two novels per season. With only 10 of the 13 books incorporated into the show by its end, The Last Kingdom has more of its source material awaiting on-screen shooting - which audiences are guaranteed to see.
Originally aired on the BBC in the first two seasons of 2015-2017 before Netflix took over production of the third season in 2018, The Last Kingdom Uhtred follows him as he seeks to claim his ancestral rights. Saxon at birth, despite being raised as a Dane, Uhtred found himself torn between his dual identity during the show's five seasons before finally achieving his goal. Through alliances, betrayals, and many epic battles, Uhtred sought to restore peace during heated conflicts between the Saxons and Danes in medieval Anglo-Saxon lands.
Netflix's The Last Kingdom ended when Uhtred finally reclaimed his ancestral land of Bebbanburg and became master of Northumbria, under separate rule from King Edward. Although the series' final episode was a fitting end to the story, the arrival of Uhtred's estranged third child and Edward's relentless desire to unite England suggest that more is on the horizon and that Uhtred's new influence will not come without consequences. Fortunately for fans, the final chapter of Uhtred is in the works. To complete the story of the Last Kingdom, Netflix will be releasing a feature film called Seven Kings Who Must Die.
The Last Kingdom Season 6: Renewed or Canceled?
Although The Last Kingdom source material extends beyond Season 5, Netflix chose to cancel the series instead of Greenlight Season 6. The streaming service didn't provide a reason to end The Last Kingdom with Season 5, though it seems likely that was the plan. Length. Speaking at MCM London Comic Con in 2021, Alexander Drymon noted that The Last Kingdom production team "organized the show in a way that season five was always the final season," basing their narrative around 10 Saxon stories released during 2016.
Latest Kingdom movie updates and story details
