Although the series' final episode was a fitting end to the story, the arrival of Uhtred's estranged third child and Edward's relentless desire to unite England suggest that more is on the horizon and that Uhtred's new influence will not come without consequences. Fortunately for fans, the final chapter of Uhtred is in the works. To complete the story of the Last Kingdom, Netflix will be releasing a feature film called Seven Kings Who Must Die.
The Last Kingdom Season 6: Renewed or Canceled?
Although The Last Kingdom source material extends beyond Season 5, Netflix chose to cancel the series instead of Greenlight Season 6. The streaming service didn't provide a reason to end The Last Kingdom with Season 5, though it seems likely that was the plan. Length. Instead of Season 6 of The Last Kingdom, Netflix has switched to the movie format to adapt Cornwell's remaining books. On January 31, The Last Kingdom Twitter account announced that Seven Kings Must Die has begun filming. The film's running time is expected to extend to approximately two hours. Netflix has yet to release an official synopsis, but Seven Kings Must Die will be based on the last three Saxon tales: War of the Wolf, Sword of Kings, and Lord of War. Dispatch details have also been kept under wraps for the time being, though Alexander Drymon has been confirmed to return to play Uhtred. Netflix hasn't provided a release date yet, but viewers should expect the movie to premiere in the first half of 2023.
