Plec is a writer, producer, and television director known for creating several series, including The Vampire Diaries and Spinoffs - The Originals and Legacies. She has also worked on other CW series such as Riverdale, Roswell, New Mexico, and The Tomorrow People.

But Plec is working with NBC's Peacock for her next big series. As reported by Deadline, the producer will direct the ten-episode first season of The Vampire Academy for streaming.

Is 'Vampire Academy' related to 'The Vampire Diaries' or ' The Originals'?


While the new Plec show shares a common theme with The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, it is completely unrelated. The CW series is based on the novels by LJ Smith's The Vampire Diaries.


But The Vampire Academy is based on the six-book YA collection of the same name by author Richelle Mead. Mead follows the story of Rose Hathaway, a vampire-human hybrid who attends a supernatural school, St. Vladimir's Academy.



Her novels were also the basis for the 2014 Mark Waters film, The Vampire Academy. The movie stars Zoey Deutch and Lucy Fry.

In a statement across Deadline, Plec revealed that bringing the Vampire Academy to TV is something she has wanted to do for a long time. She said, "When I signed my new deal with Universal Television, they asked me about the project I had always been eager to accomplish, and my immediate answer was the Vampire Academy."


Her interest in the project dates back to 2015 when Plec tweeted about it. "I think one day I will do a mini-series Flowers in the Attic and a TV series from the Vampire Academy and everything will be fine in the world," she wrote.


Peacock has not released any information about the Vampire Academy, including the cast or release date. But as the series begins to head into production, more information should become available.
